Marine Debris Identification Manual

Tangaroa Blue Ocean Care Society have worked long and hard to gather together information regarding marine debris over the last few years of conducting beach clean ups. We know that it can be difficult to identify certain items and even more challenging to classify others and so we have brought our experience and knowledge together in the Tangaroa Blue Marine Debris Identification Manual to try to simplify things for everyone else.

The Pellet Alert Project is growing larger every day and more and more information is coming to light with the research being conducted across the world. In this area you will find files relating to the project including the latest reports and additional information on Plastic Resin Pellets.

Schools Marine Debris Kit Project

The marine debris education kit aims to introduce a relatively little known item –
plastic resin pellets – to students by way of the more general environmental issue of
marine debris.

The kit comprises:
1. A PowerPoint presentation covering the rationale for the kit and 3 lesson plans.
2. A student worksheet.
3. A list of internet resources.
4. Information on W.A. Education outcomes expected to be achieved.
5. Teacher’s feedback form.
6. A computer disc with resource images of marine debris, pellets and effects on
marine life as well as PowerPoint presentations showing particular marine debris
processes.

South West Marine Debris Project

The South West Marine Debris Project is made up of several projects including the Cape to Cape Beach Clean Up, SW Monthly Monitoring, Harvey Beach Clean Up and the Busselton Jetty Monitoring Projects. Each project area contains the files that can be downloaded relating to the project and include registration forms and reports on data collected.
