Tangaroa Blue Ocean Care Society - Awards and Recognition

2009_wa_coastal_awards_lowTangaroa Blue Ocean Care Society have been given a Special Commendation in the 2009 Western Australian Coastal Awards for Excellence - Community Group Effort.

The awards acknowledge excellence in coastal management by individuals, community groups, organisations, local government and government agencies

Since 2004, the Tangaroa Blue Ocean Care Society has engaged over 1,000 volunteers in the South West Marine Debris project. Through their annual Cape-to-Cape Beach Clean Up, they have removed more than 350,000 pieces of rubbish from the south-west coastline of WA.
Since establishment, the project has grown in the number of volunteers and the amount of coastline cleaned. Strong partnerships have been formed with over 50 south-west community groups, schools, local businesses, industry groups and government agencies. The data collected has been used by local shires and state and commonwealth government agencies for strategic planning and education to help mitigate debris in our marine waters.
