wtrlogotopWestern Tourist Radio operates stations in Bunbury,  Busselton, Dunsborough, Cowaramup (near Margaret River) and Karridale (near Augusta) . The company has recently formed a joint venture with the operator of www.drivewa.com.au and www.wapass.com.au  to operate services in East Perth, Rottnest Island and Swan Valley all on 87.6FM.  In addition WTR holds licences in a number of other locations including Albany, Armadale, Denmark, Fremantle, Kalgoorlie, Mt Barker, Mundaring as well as a number of sites on the Eyre Highway.  Visitors to this site can now listen to the full Busselton & Dunsborough program via the internet as well as to the story about individual businesses by clicking on the  icon next to the business name and link.

Our stations provide listeners (both travellers and locals) with the information they require about things to do and the unique products and services available in the area. In so doing, we highlight aspects of each region, with information and anecdotes on the history, industry, attractions and talents of the people of the region. We believe that by featuring local people on our programs, both yarns and musical talent, that local West Australians will be attracted to listen and can be encouraged to holiday in their own backyard.

Tangaroa Blue thanks Western Tourist Radio for promoting the Western Australia Marine Debris Project!

anav_htblogo_108x69Not so long ago, at a time when Santa Monica Bay was treated daily as a dump site, a small group of concerned people took it upon themselves to heal this troubled part of the world.

They did it for those who simply wanted to swim, fish or surf safely in clean water. And they did it for the marine life that was suffering from some of the highest levels of contamination found anywhere along our nation's coastline.

That small group swelled into an organisation and movement that has done more to recover the Bay's coastal environment than anyone could have expected. But in the process, they did more than that. They showed us that it's not too late for Southern California, that no agency is too big to fight and win, that we can heal our environment and that we can heal our Bay.

gn_logoThe Carpentaria Ghost Nets Programme (www.ghostnets.com.au), an alliance of the 18 indigenous communities surrounding the Gulf of Carpentaria, was established in 2004. In the following four years the project achieved the removal of 5,243 ghost nets (lost, abandoned or discarded fishing nets) of varying sizes from approximately 1500km of coastline. This has resulted in recovery of a proportion of the trapped wildlife and the prevention of the ghost nets from returning to the sea, continuing their destructing life-cycle. Less than 10% of these nets have been attributed to Australian fisheries.
This project is also enabling these Aboriginal communities to fulfil their aspirations to care for their sea country through building the skills and knowledge of the extensive network of indigenous rangers. It is assisting in the establishment of institutional frameworks and opening channels of communication between these communities on a scale that has never been experienced in Australia with a single project.
This multi award winning programme is managed by the Northern Gulf Resource Management Group with funding from the Australian Government until 2013. The Australian Government funding is matched by stakeholder's cash and in-kind contributions.

qld-gov_centred_rgbWe would like to acknowledge the Department of Environment and Resource Management’s support for the Queensland Marine Debris Project through a 2009 Natural Resources Awareness Grant. The Grant has enabled beach and island clean ups, data collection and research to be conducted on two Queensland World Heritage Listed Islands, Low Isles and Fraser Island, and their surrounding environments. The broader community, individuals, community groups and local schools have all participated in presentations and clean up events which were also supported by local councils, businesses, The Low Isles Preservation Society and Tangaroa Blue Ocean Care Society. A report on the events and the grant will be compiled and made available on this website at the completion of the grant. Please click here for more information on the Natural Resources Awareness Grant.
